Try before you buy
We often get asked by people for advice on what board to buy from people who have moved on from a starter board and want something shorter. Normally beginners have learned to surf on a foamy and have then progressed onto a hardboard, generally between 7’2 and 8’6 depending on their age/weight/height experience. These boards will be fairly wide, giving stability, and have good volume for bouyancy.
When someone wants to move down from these starter boards there are more variables to consider as there are different types of boards and you also need to consider the plan shape of the board, and the width and thickness. We can talk you through this process and advise on the best board for you. To help you choose we have a range of boards that you can test drive before you purchase.
We charge €20 for the rental of the test drive board and if you buy a board we will take the €20 off the price of the new board. We have a big range of boards available for test drive. For beginner surfers we have a full range of NSP boards, which are the best beginner boards by far: 6’8, 7’2, 7’6, 7’10, 8’2 and 8’6. For intermediate surfers we have a great range of step down boards – usually drop down about 6 inched from your beginner board. We have epoxy funboards and mini mals in 6’4, 6’8, 6’10, 7’2, 7’6 and 7’10. We also have Tiki Supercharged CLX epoxy fish boards in 6’1, 6’6 and 6’8
If you have a starter hardboard you can always trade it in for a new board with our trade in deal which we are offering at the moment details here.
